Developing a Sense of Purpose
1) Convey expectations
- Students perform best with high expectations.
- Convey expectations as long-term goals.
- Start with short-term, specific goals.
- Use behavioural contracts to define specific goals.
2) Assist students in setting goals
- Help students identify goals they want to achieve.
- Have students set specific goals, (that is, participate in developing their individual program goals in written form).
3) Build confidence and faith
- Demonstrate faith in students’ ability to succeed.
- Provide reassurance when needed.
- Recognize past accomplishments.
