Encouraging Responsible Behaviour
- Have students establish individuals and group goals—for example, knowledge / grades / year and future.
- Provide printed (or electronic) agenda/daytimer to include daily assignment schedule, marks, important fact of the day.
- Establish and clarify expectations with respect to homework and assignments.
- Use “earned time/make up time” concept: 10 minutes at the end of morning/ afternoon.
- Coordinate a “buddy system” grouping: students assisting each other with picking up assignments.
- Review student goals periodically: assist in planning for improvement.
- Contact parents or guardians with information—positive calls or to discuss concerns.
- Initiate individual and group reinforcement strategies.
- Conduct student–teacher–guardian–parent conferences schoolwide: train the students to conduct the conferences.
