Research suggests that effective cooperating teachers are:

  • More proactive than reactive
  • More specific in their communication
  • (Walk the talk) Model behaviours, teaching techniques and attitudes recommended to student teachers
  • Exhibit greater consistency between behaviours and verbal expressions
  • Possess greater adaptability and flexibility
  • Provide rationales for their actions and suggestions
  • Practise self-reflection as an active learner
  • Employ positive, problem-solving approaches
